The Supreme Court has ruled unanimously that the states cannot sell DMV information to private parties. This decision overturned a ruling by an appellate court allowing the state of South Carolina (yeah, the same brainiacs who fly the Confederate flag over their capitol) to sell the information of its licensees.

The problem is the loopholes allowed. The phrase "any government agency" is expected, but anyone with a private investigator's license can get your info. But then, why should that be a problem, there aren't any sleazeballs in that business, are there? And insurance companies can get the data - not your insurance company, any insurance company, so expect more junk mail from the insurance industry as they rape the DMV databases.

Well, it could have been worse.
