All Time Favorites
Rubber Soul, The Beatles
A breakaway from the bubble-gum stuff they started out doing, this still sounds good today. "In My Life" was an instant classic.
The White Album, The Beatles
Showcases the talent of the individual members as well as the group. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is my favorite Harrison piece. (Get well, George.)
Sgt. Pepper's, The Beatles
Great album and a cool cartoon/movie.
Abbey Road, The Beatles
"Something" and other standards.
Hotel California, The Eagles
Maybe the best rock "concept" LP ever.
Hell Freezes Over, The Eagles
"Get Over It" and other great tunes. I hope you got to see the concert tour.
Pieces of You, Jewel
The title song sets the tone for great writing performed equally well.
Building the Perfect Beast, Don Henley
Henley flies high without his Eagle partners.
No Fences, Garth Brooks
Debut CD of one of the most influential country "artists" (why is it that "hillbilly" singers are artists?) of all time.
The Storms of Life, Randy Travis
Quite possibly the best country CD ever, this CD and Mr. Travis, along with George Strait, had already put country in mainstream America BG (Before Garth.)
Something to Remember, Madonna
I used to not like Madonna, BUT "You'll See" meant a lot to me personally. There are a couple of other new releases on here also along with her hit ballads.
The Top 10 Hits, Elvis Presley
The King. 'nuff said.
Hot Rocks, The Rolling Stones
THE Greatest Rock & Roll band EVER.
Phantom of the Opera, London cast
I love the theatre. Which soundtrack is my favorite depends on the day of the week, but today I like this one. "Think of Me" should have been a hit for some pop star; "All I Ask of You" is sung (for good reason) at many weddings.
Bat out of Hell II, Meatloaf
Sometimes, you just gotta rock, and I love Mr. Loaf for those days. First to last track, this is a great CD. "Objects in the Rear View Mirror" could have been written about me -- the names even fit. So maybe that's why I like it so much -- but isn't that why we are attracted to art (however you define it) in the first place?
Come On, Come On, Mary Chapin Carpenter
One of the best living songwriters, I love to listen to her craftsmanship. If I ever write anything 10% as good as her stuff, I'll be happy.
Stones in the Road, Mary Chapin Carpenter
American Pie, Don McLean
The day the music died, a poetic tribute to VVG, and other masterpieces.
Tapestry, Carole King
Every song a gem.
Songbook, Trisha Yearwood
A great collection of country hits, plus the song from Con Air, "How Do I Live Without You."
Party Doll and other Favorites, Mary Chapin Carpenter
Great new songs and old favorites, including a live acoustic version of "Quitting Time," make this a must have for anyone who appreciates great song crafting.
Come On Over, Shania Twain
Jazzy pop sound well done by this country diva.
