Favorite Tom Hanks Movies

Winner of back-to-back Academy awards, Hanks has made an amazing number of high-quality films.

Philadelphia (1993) DVD
A well-deserved Oscar for playing an attorney fired because he has AIDS.

Forrest Gump (1994) DVD
Another Oscar for Hanks. Film now generally recognized as a certified classic.

Saving Private Ryan (1998) DVD
Perhaps the most realistic depiction of combat ever put on film. Maybe the best war movie ever, Hanks quite possibly deserved another Oscar.

Apollo 13 (1984) DVD
"Houston, we have a problem." Great movie about the space program and the amazing pioneers who made it work.

Cast Away (2000) DVD
Doesn't seem to quite fulfill its promise, but a good movie nonetheless.

The Green Mile (1999) DVD

Sleepless in Seattle (1993) DVD
Co-starring Meg Ryan, a good film for those into romance.

You've Got Mail (1998) DVD
Reunited with Meg Ryan, subplots make this more interesting.

Bachelor Party (1984) DVD
Really just a long sitcom, but a funny one nonetheless.

Splash (1994) DVD
Daryl Hannah as a Mermaid? That's a romance I can watch.

(2001) HBO has had the best short-series productions on TV. An all-star cast makes this screen adaptation of the book detailing the incredible adventures of the 101st Airborne from D-Day to post-war Germany is easily the most watchable film of its kind considering the length. (But if you get it - believe me - you won't be watching an episode a week - I finished it over a weekend.)

(2006) Don't care about the book, don't care about the movie, but many do so I'm including it here.
